Injury carnage is ripping through the much-anticipated NFL game in Melbourne on Friday, as two San Francisco 49ers players were struck down on the MCG’s turf.

49ers tight end Jake Tonges was forced off the field during the second quarter of San Francisco’s blockbuster game against the LA Rams thanks to a knee injury.

Gruesome footage shows Tonges falling to the grass as Rams defensive end Myles Garrett dodges his tackle.

Tonges’ right leg makes contact with Garrett’s left, causing a brutal impact to the tight end’s knee.

Tonges attempted to limp off the field, before medical staff rushed to assist.

He has not returned to the field after half time.

Earlier, 49ers receiver De’Zhaun Stribling was ruled out of the game after suffering an ankle injury during the second quarter.

Stribling appeared to tweak his left ankle while running during a play, and did not make contact with another player.

He was assisted off the pitch by medical staff and transported by cart into the MCG’s rooms for treatment.

Despite the injuries, San Francisco are dominated the showcase game, beatingg the Rams 27-7.

More than 100,000 fans are packed into the MCG to watch the game, and were treated to a high-energy halftime show from the Jonas Brothers.

The iconic band of brothers performed their greatest hist, including Burnin’ Up, Sucker, and Year 3000, before paying tribute to their Aussie audience with a rendition of You’re the Voice by John Farnham.
