Australia have shown no mercy in a ruthless 78-0 demolition of England in their Rugby League World Cup clash in Perth on Saturday night.
The Jillaroos crossed 15 times with the only downside of the night perhaps being Jocelyn Kelleher missing six conversions, although she did still rack up 26 points in a superb outing in just her second appearance.
The victory makes it two from two for the raging favourites, who are chasing their fourth-straight World Cup.
But it may have come at a cost with Julia Robinson suffering a suspected fractured wrist in the first half. She was taken to hospital and will await scans, but her World Cup is likely over.
“She will miss the remainder of the tournament,” Seven sideline reporter Katie Brown said.
Robinson was forced off minutes after scoring, holding her wrist in agony.
“Awful news for Robinson there,” England great James Graham said on Seven.
“It looked like friendly fire.”
The injury took the gloss off a dominant performance.
Jamie Chapman got the ball rolling with two tries inside five minutes before Kelleher scored either side of a Robinson try to already lay the foundations for a big win.
Isabelle Kelly and Abbi Church rounded out the dominant first half.
The scoring didn’t stop in the second half as England simply had no answers. Their only bright spot was a disallowed try as the Aussies were just as good in defence as they were going forward.
The Aussies ended up with 11 different try scores as Tarryn Aikden, Olivia Kernick, Quincy Dodd, Mackenzie Weale, Tiana Penitani Gray and Shaylee Bent all got in on the act.
Speaking after the match, Kelleher admitted she was surprised she scored 26 points.
“That’s pretty cool, I definitely didn’t know that ... but the wind definitely wasn’t my friend out there with the goal kicks, I had a bit of trouble,” she told Seven after the match.
“That’s a pretty cool stat to have and I’ll hold it pretty close to my heart.
“It’s been incredible to be out here wearing this jersey ... to get 26 points in my second game is pretty epic I’d say.”
Seven experts were in awe of the performance.
“Australia have made it a whitewash. No points for England, one disallowed try was the best they had. The Jillaroos make a statement in Perth. You’re going to have to be awfully good to stop them winning a fourth straight World Cup,” Andrew Voss said in commentary.
James Graham added: “You’re going have to be awfully good to get over the try line against them. Their attack has been sublime, it’s been sensational.
“They had that that wall-like mentality, nobody is going to get through us, and the desperation in defence at the back end of that game will really please the players and the staff.”
