Rising star Karacasu is on track to chase the riches of next year’s Magic Million 3YO Guineas at the Gold Coast after an impressive win at Morphettville on Saturday.

Trained by Richard and Chantelle Jolly, Karacasu timed its run to perfection in a field of six to win a heat of the Rebel Raider Series to chalk up two wins and three seconds from five starts.

Richard Jolly said the horse had shown him enough to pursue the big money offered at the Gold Coast carnival on January 15 next year.

“Karacasu is a really nice horse. We will probably run in the final of the Rebel Raider (Morphettville, October 16) and then maybe a run in Melbourne.

“If he can win the Rebel Raider final that should give him enough prizemoney to qualify for the Magic Millions. We don’t want to overtax him but one more win should do it.’’

Kemalpasa also is on track for higher duties, the immediate goal being the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 1, after an impressive second placing in the Listed W H Wylie Handicap on Saturday.

Lumping the top weight of 62kg and conceding up to 8kg to most of his opposition, Kemalpasa took up the early running and was a sitting duck into a headwind for the swoopers in the straight. But it wasn’t until about 100m from home that the Chris Bieg-trained Free Of Debt broke clear to win.

“We were thrilled with that effort. I think Kemalpasa is going probably better now than last year,” Jolly said.

“He pulled up very well from Saturday. His record down the straight is very good and he did run third in the Gilgai last year.’’

The Group 1 Manikato Stakes at The Valley also could be on the radar if things go well in the Gilgai.

Wild Imagination, another Jolly winner at Morphettville on Saturday, is another performer the stable is excited about.

“She’s a bit untapped and is a nice filly. It’s taken a few runs to reach her peak,’’ Jolly said.

“We might step her up in distance and see how that goes.’’

The stable has a big contingent hitting the trials in the coming days, one of those being the popular Regalo Di Gaetano which is being targeted at the Murray Bridge Gold Cup on Friday, October 15.

Regalo Di Gaetano caught the nation’s attention by earning the public’s support for a start in this year’s $5m All-Star Mile.
