What should have been a day of celebration for David Mundy’s 350th game has turned into an injury nightmare for Fremantle with captain Nat Fyfe and star forward Michael Walters injured against Sydney.

Fyfe’s ongoing battle with his right shoulder injury has taken a significant turn for the worse with the superstar forced from the field in the hands of trainers shortly before half-time and subbed out of the match.

Fyfe reached for a loose ball as Swans youngster Sam Wicks attempted a soccer off the ground and immediately clutched at his shoulder in pain following the contact.

The Dockers’ trainers helped him to the rooms for treatment as they search for ways to stop his shoulder from dislocating. But his chances of returning for the second half are over.

“He’s going to be out of the game. He’s popped that shoulder out again,” coach Justin Longmuir said.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Walters clutched at his right hamstring after taking a mark shortly after half-time and hobbled straight to the interchange bench.

Walters has struggled this season but had found form in the last two games and showed good signs against Sydney.

But Fyfe’s injury is the big long term concern.

Fyfe had pre-season surgery on that shoulder and then dislocated it in a marking contest against the Western Bulldogs on June 6. He returned against Carlton on July 3 but teams have made a point of tackling him strongly and he’s been in pain during several recent matches.

Coach Justin Longmuir has indicated the club will assess Fyfe weekly to see how his shoulder is progressing.

Fyfe has been an important player throughout the first half with 15 disposals and five clearances..

The Swans were leading by three points at half-time and extended that straight after the long break.
