Fremantle Dockers leader Andrew Brayshaw backs in ‘good fella’ Patrick Voss

Fremantle leader Andrew Brayshaw has addressed teammate Pat Voss’s on-field antics, joking he has “a few screws loose”.
The Dockers forward made headlines during Fremantle’s win over Melbourne on Saturday night for taunting Demons defender Harrison Petty at quarter time.
Voss patted Petty on the head and mimicked being a crybaby, seemingly in reference to a similar incident three years ago when the defender was mocked for his emotions during his mother’s cancer battle.
While Brayshaw didn’t address the incident, he was asked about another bizarre Voss moment when he picked up former Docker Ed Langdon and carried him on his shoulder before putting him down, the pair sharing a laugh.
“Vossy is ahh, one of the funniest blokes going around,” Brayshaw told Channel 7.
“Definitely has a few screws loose. It was a bit like WWE, where you throw someone over the top rope, so I thought Ed was going into the stands.
“They were both having a good laugh, and I love playing with Vossy, he’s so much fun and a great fella.
“He plays on the edge, and when he started to shoulder press him, I was like ‘I actually don’t know what’s going on here’.

“To see him and Ed have a smile after was good.”
Fox Footy commentator David King was less enthused by Voss and his antics, suggesting his behaviour, which has seen him become a cult figure among the purple army, is a bad look for the competition.
“Sometimes you just need those energy givers to spark up, but it does go too far, and he overstepped the mark at quarter-time, and I think there’ll be some reflection from the club that that’s just a step too far,” he said on Fox Footy.
“I think you’ve got to have a status in the game to get away with that sort of stuff, and the harsh reality is, Voss, doesn’t have that yet.
“I think it’s a bad look, and the AFL won’t be thrilled with this, and I think the taunting rule will come into effect because in the end it’s an ugly part of our game that we don’t need.”
Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir said during his press conference that he was unaware of the exchange but praised Voss for the general energy and enthusiasm he brings to the side.
“We understand he treads a fine line at times, and he’s got to manage that,” Longmuir said.
“But he just brings so much energy to the group that we all buzz off it.
“He plays with great energy. He tries to help his teammates out who are getting tagged. He goes after target players for us or players we want to try and negate from the opposition. So he does a lot right in that sense.”
