The Perth Scorchers won’t have to head to the east coast until almost halfway through their BBL schedule this summer in what looms as a chance for a flying start to their title defence.

After their much-publicised trip to India for the season opener, Perth will host three consecutive games at Optus Stadium in December to give themselves the opportunity to bank early home wins.

As revealed by The West Australian, the Scorchers will host the Melbourne Stars in their annual Boxing Day home clash on the night of December 26. They face Hobart and the Sydney Thunder on either side of that fixture before heading to the eastern seaboard for the first time with a January 2 fixture in NSW.

Scorchers general manager Kade Harvey said his team was thrilled to get a block of home games early in the campaign.

“It’s a great result for our players and staff to have the opportunity to take part in the history-making clash in Chennai,” he said.

“Equally as exciting is being able to spend the Christmas and New Year period at home with three consecutive home games.

“We were pleased to win four out of our five away matches in BBL15 and we are excited to try and replicate that again this season against quality opposition.

“It’s set to be a history-making season for the club and we’re really excited to bring our members and fans along for the ride.”

Perth won’t get a chance to host the Sydney Sixers in a rematch of last summer’s final, with the sole fixture between the two clubs at the SCG on January 10.

This season’s finals begin on January 19, with the decider to be played on the evening of Australia Day a week later.

The schedule also sees the return of a Christmas Eve fixture, with the Renegades to host Hobart at Melbourne’s Junction Oval.
