Middlesex have axed Australian coach Stuart Law with a year left on his contract after another disappointing season for the English county outfit.

Law signed a four year deal when he took over the reins in 2019 but Middlesex have made little headway under the former Bangladesh and West Indies mentor.

Middlesex have battled since winning the County Championship in 2016 and will play in Division Two next year.

Former Queensland skipper Law - who played 54 one-day internationals and a sole Test for Australia - was tapped on the shoulder by Middlesex following an end of season review.

Alan Coleman will be interim head coach until a full-time replacement is found.

"We would like to thank Stuart for his efforts across three seasons," chief executive Andrew Cornish said.

"It's always sad when committed people leave the club and things do not work out as all parties would have hoped and Stuart leaves Middlesex with our thanks and best wishes.

"Our on-field performances have not been up to the standards we require.

"The review and the outcomes resulting from it have not been taken lightly."
