One of the Big Bash’s greatest operators will be out for the season with former Perth Scorcher Jason Behrendorff undergoing surgery.
The four-time tournament champion will miss the upcoming season after the Melbourne Renegades revealed that he had recently undergone shoulder surgery.
“It’s disappointing to miss a BBL season, but I’ve got a clear plan with the medical team, and my focus is on getting my shoulder right so I can return to full fitness,” Behrendorff said.
“I’m looking forward to supporting the team and staying involved throughout the season, being able to work closely with the bowlers and coaching staff.”
“It also provides an opportunity to work with the Renegade media team and broadcasters to share a different view of the game for our fans.”
The Renegades have said they will seek a replacement player for the veteran quick, but Behrendorff will remain with the club remaining contracted for next year.
The 36-year-old has been a mainstay of the BBL for more than a decade after making his Scorchers debut in 2012, where he would go on to win four titles for his adopted state.
His 140 wickets are the fifth most in competition history, while he is second only to AJ Tye for Perth Scorchers wicket takers.
While he is no stranger to injury setbacks, having missed BBL06 with a stress fracture and BBL09 with spinal surgery, Behrendorff had been one of the most durable players in recent years and was the competition’s leading wicket-taker in his final Scorchers season before moving to Melbourne last year.
