Collingwood will unveil West Perth product Sam Swadling, with the former Falcon to make his AFL debut at the MCG against Port Adelaide this Saturday.
Swadling was taken at pick No.37 in the 2025 draft after a prolific colts season at West Perth, where he racked up 35 touches per game on his way to winning the fairest and best award despite playing just seven games.
The 19-year-old has remained a ball magnet at VFL level, where he has averaged more than 26 touches from nine games, including a 40-disposal outing agaisnt Sydney, where he also kicked his first goal.
Swwdling was closing in on a debut, being named as an emergency for Collingwood’s King’s Birthday clash before the bye.
Coach Craig McRae said he was excited to see what he could bring to AFL level and hinted he could be used across a variety of roles.
“We just announced it before we trained today, he’s a really exciting kid from WA,” he said.
“He’s a really talented young man, so he’ll play a bit of midfield, a bit of forward and everywhere really, he’s capable of doing that, he’s that talented.
“He’s got good energy, and we’re excited to see that in a Collingwood jumper for the first time.”
Swadling listed Scott Pendlebury as one of is idols during the draft and will now run out alongside him this weekend.
“I’m literally going to work and I’m going to be surrounded by so many blokes that I’ve idolised over the years. I can’t wait to get stuck in, get to know everyone and let everyone get to know me as well,” he told The West Australian last year.
