Emerging West Coast midfielder Luke Edwards has been pipped by an Adelaide young gun for this week’s NAB Rising Star nomination despite a stunning performance against Richmond last night.

In just his second game for the club, Edwards - the son of Crows legend Tyson Edwards - notched up 27 disposals in the Eagles’ thrilling win over the Tigers at Optus Stadium.

The 19-year-old kept his cool in a high-pressure contest and was instrumental in the home side’s four-goal comeback in the final quarter.

Edwards had 11 disposals in the last quarter, with four of those contested and four score assists as West Coast ran home by four points.

But Edwards will have to wait until after the club’s round 14 bye to get another shot at a Rising Star nomination after Adelaide’s Riley Thilthorpe earned this week’s nod.

It was well deserved for the 18-year-old, who kicked the match-winning goal over his head to seal the Crows’ remarkable come from behind victory.

Despite being held scoreless for the firs 45 minutes of the game, Adelaide held St Kilda to just one goal in the second half to secure a six-point win in Cairns on Saturday night.

Thilthorpe collected a game-high three majors, but it was his last-minute snap over his head that bewildered footy fans.

Speaking after the game, Thilthorpe told Seven the ball just “fell into his lap”.

“I don’t know how it went in, but it went in. No idea, I just saw the ball and kicked it.”
