Melbourne CEO Paul Guerra has sensationally parted ways with the club less than a year after taking the role.
Guerra was appointed into the role exactly a year ago, but didn’t start until September.

However, he has lasted just seven months with 7NEWS reporter Xander McGuire revealing the club and Guerra have parted ways.
The reason behind the decision, according to club president Steven Smith, is a “breakdown of relationships with the board”.
“There was a loss of confidence in his ability to lead the club and a breakdown of relationships with the board,” Smith told 7NEWS.
“We’ve shown we can make hard decisions with Simon Goodwin’s departure and Stephen King’s appointment.”
But Guerra told 7NEWS that he was mystified by the call and he had engaged lawyers.
“I’m really puzzled by the board’s decisions,” he told 7NEWS.
“I’m really proud of the team that we’ve put together and I’m really proud of the role that I’ve played in the team’s success.
“To everybody that sent messages and phoned today, and there’s been a lot, I really appreciate that.
“The matter’s now in the hands of my lawyers, so I can’t say much more than that for now.”
McGuire revealed earlier on Tuesday that former West Coast, Geelong and Carlton CEO Brian Cook will be named as the interim CEO.
Guerra was somewhat of a leftfield selection after previously being CEO at the Victoria Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He officially took over from interim David Chippindall in September last year. Chippindall had been in charge on a temporary basis after Gary Pert’s resignation at the end of 2024.
Guerra guided the club through a busy off-season that included a change in coach following the sacking of Simon Goodwin.
He played an integral role in the appointment of Steven King appointed as coach as the club ushered in a new era without superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.
Melbourne have been one of the stories of the season so far, surging to fourth place on the ladder with a 5-2 record under the rookie coach.
They have been super impressive with a new attacking brand that has seen them knock off premiership fancies Brisbane and Gold Coast.
But there has been some issues off the field, headlined by the proposed move to the Caulfield Racecourse hitting a stumbling block and also their temporary move to Waverley Park on the rocks.
There was also controversy surrounding the retirement of Steven May when football boss Alan Richardson revealed sensitive personal information in a Zoom call to the partners of players.
Guerra’s departure continues a revolving door in the Demons’ top offices, with Smith the fourth person to fill the president role in the last six years.
“On behalf of Melbourne Football Club, I thank Paul for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future,” Smith said in a statement.
“Brian is a highly respected operator and with over 35 years of experience in AFL clubs he will provide much needed leadership and guidance through this period.
“We are pleased that Brian has agreed to step into the role in an interim capacity until a permanent CEO can commence.”
Smith was asked directly by 7NEWS on Tuesday if the Guerra decision was linked to the ill-conceived Zoom call about May, but he declined to comment.
