The lucky winner of The West Australian’s 2026 Toyota AFL Grand Final Giveaway has been drawn.
Lucky local Paul Chapman received the exciting news on Wednesday and once he and partner Michelle Anderson accepted the call wasn’t a scam, the pair were beside themselves.
“I just thought it was another someone trying to sell solar or something, and they left a message, so I obviously thought hang on, they said they’re a third party that do the tickets, and I went, ‘is someone scamming me from work and they think they’re funny?’,” he said.
“But anyway, I rang back, and yeah, no, it was good. I’m going!”
Mr Chapman was among more than 40,000 hopefuls who entered The West’s competition this week, which offered return flights to Melbourne, two nights accommodations and most importantly, tickets to the game that will decide whether Fremantle or Brisbane raise the AFL premiership cup.
While the winner is an Eagles supporter, Ms Anderson is a hardcore Fremantle Dockers fan.
Ms Anderson also took some convincing that she wasn’t being pranked first though.
“She didn’t believe me. I had to send her a picture of the email from you guys,” Mr Chapman said.
They will leave Friday on a chartered flight and spend two nights at Hannah Street Hotel Melbourne.
