Outgoing Brisbane star Lachie Neale has made light of the strike that almost ruined his grand final hopes as the Lions claimed a historic three-peat.
Brisbane came back from 17 points down late in the final quarter to break Fremantle hearts and secure their second hat-trick of flags in club history.
The dual Brownlow Medal winner helped sink his former club, after a dramatic week that saw his one-match ban for striking Hawthorn’s Jack Ginnivan first upheld and then overturned on appeal due to exceptional and compelling circumstances.
Neale posted a picture of himself to Instagram with the three premiership cups, with Ginnivan leaving a cherry emoji, to which Neale playfully replied “hope your tummy okay my guy x.”
Fremantle fans booed him relentlessly during the parade and in Saturday’s grand final, including when he went to receive his premiership medal, with many beleiving he should not have been allowed to play.
“I don’t give a s*** about that,” he said of the booing.
“I used to play for them, which probably added to it.
“I missed that set shot, which sucks, and that was the loudest it was all day.”
It will be his last act in Brisbane colours with a move to Collingwood in the off-season all but confirmed as he took to Instagram to post
“They’ve been the best eight years of my life and to finish it with three premierships is something I would have never dreamed of.”
