Former Collingwood superstar Dane Swan to play friendly game for Kingsway on Saturday

Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin will not be the only AFL champion to feature in WA local football at the weekend, with Dane Swan set to line up for set to line up for a Perth side on Saturday.
The 2011 Brownlow medallist will play a friendly game for Kingsway at their home ground in Madeley from 3.30pm before featuring at a speaking event alongside former West Coast champion Scott Cummings in the evening.
Since being forced to retire from AFL football by a foot injury in 2015, Swan has made appearances for a succession of local football clubs around the country.
Last year, he featured for York in the Avon Football Association and played for Lower South West Football League side Southerners, which came on the back of a game for Chapman Valley in the Great Northern Football League in 2023.
The prolific midfielder led the league in disposals across four separate seasons and was a key figure in Collingwood’s 2010 premiership side, the same year he also won the AFL Coaches Association and AFL Players Association’s awards for the competition’s best player.
On Saturday, Franklin will return to his junior club in Dowerin and play for the Tigers in their Mortlock Football League season opener against Gingin as part of an effort to raise funds for new lighting at the Wheatbelt town’s oval.
