AFL fixture update: Collingwood and Hawthorn clash moved from Tasmania to Victoria

The AFL has been forced to move Hawthorn and Collingwood’s clash on Sunday after the first COVID-19 case in over a year was recorded in Tasmania.

Premier Peter Gutwein announced the decision today, forcing the two clubs to return to Melbourne for the game.

The new coronavirus case was a 31-year-old man from New South Wales who flew from Victoria to Tasmania.

He did not have an approved permit and was stopped at the airport, he was then taken to hotel quarantine, where he returned a positive result.

The Game AFL 2024

The round 21 fixture was originally scheduled for Melbourne but was shifted to Launceston to allow for a crowd of up to 10,000 to attend.

It would have been the Pies’ first match for premiership points on the Apple Isle and the State’s 11th fixture this season.

An empty MCG will now host the game at 12.10pm AWST on Sunday.
