If we look back on history, it is clear to see that once Christianity controlled Easter.

In 2024, does Easter take a back seat?

It’s more competitive now; even the Churches advertise in a bigger way all their services during Easter.

Remember the days when you could hear a pin drop on Good Friday? No alcohol could be purchased.

The competition starts early these days, very early. Hot Cross Buns start early, a big impact.

Starting on Good Friday, there is more competition. Sports, Easter eggs, shops and food outlets, holiday accommodation — all seeking to make a dollar, including the Churches. They have needs.

Let’s take the blinkers off and be honest. Has consumerism taken over Easter and is it a good or bad thing?

The Buddha’s words, if we have heard them, keep us all honest when he says “question everything”.
