VideoThe warm weather is on its way for Perth with temperatures forecast to reach 28C degrees on Tuesday

Summer feels oh so close after Perth enjoyed its hottest day in months.

The mercury hit 28.4C in the city just before 1pm on Tuesday, making it Perth’s warmest day since April 28, when the temperature reached 29.7C.

And if you thought it felt warmer than normal for this time of year you’d be right — the average maximum temperature for September is 20.5C.

The glorious weather follows a string of sunny days with 21C on Father’s Day and 25C yesterday. Perth is tipped to be 26C on Wednesday.

However, today’s warmth is no record by a long stretch — Perth reached a scorching 34.2C on September 20, 2014.

Don’t get too used to the sun, though. A rain band is set to pass over the city on Wednesday evening, and the bulk of the downpour will be felt on Thursday morning, Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Catherine Schelfhout said.

A cold front is then set to approach on Friday, when temperatures will drop.

But the wintry weather is set to clear just in time for the weekend, with 19C and mostly sunny conditions predicted for Saturday and Sunday.

Wednesday: 26C, becoming cloudy
