Summer is knocking with Perth temperatures set to hit 31C on Friday — and barely a drop of rain in sight for the week ahead.
Mostly sunny conditions are forecast to dominate the metropolitan area through to next Wednesday, with temperatures regularly climbing towards 30C.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist David Crock said a large ridge of high pressure across central Australia was bringing settled conditions to southern parts of the country.
“That’s going to bring beautiful, sunny skies through New South Wales, southern Queensland, much of South Australia as well as southern WA,” he said.
Perth will reach 31C on Friday, with an overnight minimum of 15C, before temperatures ease to 28C on Saturday and 25C on Sunday.
The mercury will climb again to 27C on Monday and 28C on Tuesday before another 31C day is forecast for Wednesday.
The bureau is forecasting a “very high chance” of no rain through the weekend and at least an 80 per cent chance of no rain into next week.
But while Perth enjoys the sunshine, parts of regional WA face a very different forecast.
Mr Crock said a heat trough developing across the State’s interior would trigger showers and thunderstorms through the Pilbara and inland districts on Friday.
Severe thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening, bringing the risk of damaging winds across inland parts of the Pilbara and extending into the interior.
“That’s going to be driving showers and thunderstorms through the Pilbara into the interior and through the southeastern districts as well,” he said.
