WA’s peak tourism body has urged Premier Mark McGowan to set a date for the interstate border to reopen claiming businesses are losing out in the interim.

Tourism Council WA chief executive officer Evan Hall said a clear road map would enable businesses to book in advance for interstate visitors and allow planning for cultural and sporting events.

Speaking to The West Live host Jenna Clarke this morning, Mr Hall will discuss how the McGowan Government’s border plan is hurting WA jobs.

Later on the show, with the end of financial year around the corner finance guru Nick Bruining says now is the time to examine working from home costs to claim COVID-19-related entitlements.

The Your Money columnist for The West Australian will join Clarke to discuss what options people have to make sure home office expenses are covered.

Those forced to work from home amid the coronavirus crisis can either claim 80 cents for every hour or claim a portion of the resources they used, such as buying a desk or printer and use of stationary.

A further 52 cents per hour can be claimed for things like water and power use.

Mr Bruining will also explain how to claim travel-related expenses, with entitlements for kilometres travelled under 5000km in a year.

On the show, Mr Bruining will also be looking ahead to provide tips on where to invest your tax return.
