Confronting video has emerged of the moment three police officers were attacked and abused while trying to arrest a man who had allegedly been threatening people with an axe handle in Albany.

The vision — described as “vile” by the WA Police Union — was shot on a mobile phone by a woman who began abusing the officers from the moment they arrived at her home, referring to them variously as “pigs” and “dog c...s” as they tried to make the arrest.

The officers went to the property on Carbine Street about 5pm last Thursday and found the armed man inside the home where he had been celebrating a birthday with a group of relatives. During the scuffle that followed, one of the officers was struck across the back of the head with what was believed to have been the axe handle.

Another was punched in the face, while the third was hit with a beer can.

The woman who shot the video originally tried to stop police from entering the home, but then followed them in and continued the tirade of abuse.

At one point, the woman can be heard shouting at an officer who is bleeding heavily from a facial wound “are you happy ... you police dog c...s”.

The woman later posted the video to her Facebook page and soon became the target of abuse from angry Albany locals disgusted by what they saw. The Facebook page has since been removed.

Police Union president George Tilbury said the video showed what police regularly had to put up with while trying to do their job.

“This is a vile display of aggression and disrespect towards police officers, which resulted in three of them being injured,” he said.

“Sadly, this behaviour is all too common and highlights just how tough policing really is.”

Lincoln Colbung and Corey Justin Brian Woods were arrested during the incident. They appeared in Albany Magistrate’ Court on Friday charged with assaulting a public officer and obstructing police.
