Legendary Hollywood filmmaker James Cameron is coming to Perth.

Cameron — the man behind blockbuster films including Titanic, The Terminator, and Avatar — will travel to WA next weekend to launch his self-titled exhibition, James Cameron: Challenging the Deep, at the WA Maritime Museum.

The event is being touted as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” to hear from the director, who has a passion for deep-sea exploration, in person.

The West Australian’s film critic, Ben O’Shea, will host a question-and-answer session with the film icon.

“This is your chance to be in the room with the groundbreaking ocean explorer and filmmaker behind some of the biggest blockbuster films, including Titanic, Avatar, Aliens, The Terminator, and The Abyss,” promotional material released by the WA Museum on Wednesday says.

“A National Geographic Explorer-at-Large, Cameron has led eight ocean expeditions and developed unprecedented robotic and submersible vehicles.

“He has also dived solo to the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, the deepest place known on Earth, and to the Titanic wreck site 33 times.”

Cameron is considered to be one of the world’s most innovative filmmakers and has won a raft of accolades including an Oscar for best director for Titanic in 1998.
