Tributes flow after Albany teen’s sudden meningococcal death on Tasmanian holiday

Tributes have poured in for Albany man Lloyd Dunham after his sudden death on Saturday.

Mr Dunham was in Tasmania helping his sister Lucy move for a new job when he fell ill.

Lucy told Seven News the 19-year-old had been in Tasmania for a week and was due to return home to WA on Saturday.

But on his way to the airport, Lloyd had trouble breathing and passed out.

Sadly the 19-year-old never regained consciousness and died on Saturday.

Mr Dunham’s sister Lucy Dunham said the family appreciate the wonderful things that have been shared on social media and are grateful for the support they have been shown.

Friends and colleagues posted tributes over the weekend mourning the loss of their friend.

“Words can’t even get close enough to express the pain I’m feeling... I just want to wake up and it all be a bad dream...it was an absolute pleasure growing up with you and growing into men together,” one friend wrote.

Meningococcal disease is an acute bacterial infection that can cause death within hours if not recognised and treated in time.

A memorial is being planned for Lloyd back in Albany.

The WA Department of Health has issued a statement confirming the death of a young man from meningococcal disease in Tasmania.

The Department says Lloyd is the second West Australian to die of meningococcal disease this year.
