A spokesperson for Victoria Police said they believed both men were food delivery drivers and that an altercation had broken out with another man when they saw him “tampering with their bikes”.

A 51-year-old man was arrested by homicide squad detectives on Saturday morning.

A witness described the incident to 7NEWS.

“The assaulter grabbed a knife and (he) was stabbed is his chest and unfortunately ... he passed away,” he said.

The witness said a group of delivery drivers tried to chase the suspect but were unsuccessful.

“They failed because he’s still grabbing this knife,” he said.

“He ran away along this sidewalk... his clothes had a lot of blood.”

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
