A crane rollover has shut a road in Leeming overnight with the closure still causing traffic chaos on Wednesday morning.

A five axle Liebherr 60 tonne crane was travelling along Karel Avenue in Leeming around 3pm on Tuesday when it tipped over as it tried to turn around a roundabout to enter onto Roe Highway.

The 63-year-old male driver of the crane sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital by a St John ambulance.

The road has been blocked in both directions between Roe Highway and Farrington Road. The Roe Highway eastbound exit to Karel Avenue is also closed.

Another crane will be required to recover the tipped crane.
