Yardgee Dockers and Halls Creek Hawks sharpen their skills on easy prey before EKFL final rounds

It was a gritty and intense round of EKFL before the finals, with two teams losing by more than 100 points.

First up the Kununurra Demons were handed another defeat by the Ord River Magpies at Kununurra Oval on Friday night.

By half-time the Demons had only managed to score a single goal to the Magpies’ five but the Demons closed the gap in the last term, kicking three goals.

But the Magpies were already far ahead, racking up nine goals over the match and defeating the Demons by 32 points, 9.9 (63) to 4.7 (31).

Jack Johnston, Nicholas Cooper, George Jannings and Jack Paul were named the best players for the Magpies alongside Timo Diederichsen, leading goalkicker (four) for the Ord River side.

The Waringarri Crows were crushed in the jaws of the Port Wyndham Crocs on Saturday night at Kununurra Oval.

The Crows were in front after the first quarter but their lead quickly fell away as the match continued.

The Crocs picked up their game in the second term to lead for the rest of the match, winning by 48 points, 12.9 (81) to 4.9 (33).

Tremaine Howard, Keifan Rogers, Alexander Ripps, Bradley Ripps, Dallas George and Nathaniel Hassett were named best players for the Crows.

The Yardgee Dockers destroyed the Kundat Djaru Cats at Halls Creek Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The Kundat Djaru Cats only managed to score one goal over the course of the match in comparison to the Dockers’ 17, with the Dockers winning by 106 points, 17.11 (113) to 1.1 (7).

The Halls Creek Hawks decimated the Wirrimanu Tigers at Halls Creek Oval.

The Hawks leaped out of the gate and put the Tigers on the back foot immediately, closing the opening term with five goals, two behinds while the Tigers only managed a single goal.

In the second quarter the Tigers scored another goal but that was their last for the match as the Hawks continued to dominate the ground and slot goal after goal, kicking a total of 20 and defeating the Wirrimanu side by 121 points, 20.13 (133) to 2.0 (12).

It was a much closer match between the Kururrungku Roos and the Yiyili Powers late on Saturday afternoon.

The Yiyili side trailed by 11 points at the first siren but they clawed their way back into the game to be just one point down by the end of the second term.

The Powers overpowered the Roos in the last quarter, winning 6.10 (46) to 5.6 (36).
