A man is assisting homicide detectives with their investigations into the discovery of a body found on the outskirts of Kununurra on Sunday afternoon.

The body was located about 4pm within an area of bushland on the eastern edge of the East Kimberley town, which has since been cordoned off and is under police guard.

The body is yet to be formally identified and police are unable to confirm whether it is that of a 31-year-old woman, who can not be named for cultural reasons, missing from Kununurra for two weeks.

It comes after police issued a public call for information on the woman’s whereabouts on Friday, and spent time door-knocking across parts of Kununurra on Sunday, noting serious concerns about her welfare.

The woman was last seen by family members in Kununurra on the weekend of October 9, but has not made contact since.

Police said there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

More to come.
