East Kimberley residents yet to be fully vaccinated have been urged to attend to the Kununurra Leisure Centre this week for the town’s second community Vaxathon.

Kununurra’s first Vaxathon was held late last month, with dozens rolling up their sleeves over the two-day clinic to receive Pfizer vaccinations.

It’s hoped they’ll return this Thursday and Friday for their second jabs, along with others yet to receive their first inoculations.

The event is part of a joint initiative from the Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service, Wunan Health, WA Country Health Service, Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley, Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service, Royal Flying Doctor Service, St John Ambulance and Kimberley Pharmacy Services to boost vaccination rates.

The Kimberley’s vaccination rate stood at about 6,700 doses per 10,000 people this week, putting the region behind all others in the State except for the Pilbara and Goldfields.
