Full of Beanz Coffee in Pelican Point approved to include upstairs office space

A new office space has been approved on top of the new Full of Beanz Drive-Thru in Pelican Point, despite some members of the community still holding concerns about the development.

City of Bunbury councillors debated last Tuesday about whether an extra storey on top of the proposed drive-thru would be accepted.

Development approval was granted by the council in September for a fast food outlet with an associated drive-thru in Pelican Point.

The proposed location is along Broadway off Old Coast Road and Estuary Drive, positioned next to the car-wash.

The City received an application to amend the approved plans to include a second storey addition to be used as office space for the business.

City officers noted several concerns with the initial plans relating to the proposed design, including parking accessibility and landscaping provisions, however, the Herald understands the applicant has since modified the plans.

Full of Beans owner Matt Fink spoke to the council on how helpful the upgrade will be for his business without disturbing the residents in Pelican Point.

“These upgrades will have no impact on the currently approved drive-thru site,” he said.

“I want this project to run as smoothly as possible.”

During the September council meeting, a number of nearby occupants objected to the proposal, with residents giving deputations on how worried the neighbourhood was over the plans.

Many were concerned about traffic and safety issues at the site, but Mr Fink assured them it would not impact residents.

“We have designed it with the local residents in mind in terms of the things we are providing,” he said.

The upper-story was unanimously approved by the council — with Cr Marina Quain unable to vote due to a personal connection to the business — and work is scheduled to begin later in the year.
