Rockingham and Baldivis are two of the top three “hottest suburbs” to live in WA, placing second and third respectively in a new report.

The Muval Index 2021 showed the moving trends for the last year were based on avoiding traffic congestion, reducing general stress and anxiety and reducing the cost of living.

The report from removalist search engine company Muval also found Millennials and families were driving the move from the city to outer-metro suburbs, helped by working-from-home roles that would traditionally have been based in cities.

REIWA deputy president Joe White said he was unsurprised Rockingham and Baldivis had made the list.

“What I got out of the list was that the young people that are moving are choosing Rockingham and Baldivis because firstly, they are midway between two big employing areas being Kwinana and Fremantle, and secondly they’re coastal,” he said. “Not only that but you’ve got the Premier who lives in Rockingham who’s very proud of the place.

“When he makes a comment, for instance when they’re talking about what they’re going to do with the beach in Cottesloe, he says things like ‘you should come and see what we’ve done in Rockingham’, and everyone who lived there felt very proud to be associated with the place.”

Ash Meadon, 29, above, moved to Baldivis in April and said she fell in love with the area’s community “vibe” and affordability.

“Everything about the Baldivis area is great, my work is only two minutes away from here, it’s close to the freeway, I can just walk to IGA and the coffee shops, it’s just awesome,” she said.

“The rental prices here are so great too, for the size of the blocks and the amount of backyard space you get, its just everything you could possibly want.

“ The bush is a 20 minute drive if you want to go for a hike, the beach is 10 minutes away. For people looking for easy living I’d definitely suggest to consider moving here.”

Scarborough was the top suburb in the index.
