Woman charged with arson attempt
Denmark Police have charged a 48 year old woman with lighting a fire likely to injure or damage.
The woman was charged over the incident which occurred on May 23.
The 48 year old lit a fire on the riverbank near the Denmark Bridge.
Sgt Matt Hartfield said with the help of the community and people coming forward with information the woman was found and charged.
“Something like this to happen in our town is always disappointing but we appreciate the support of the community, a lot of people have come forward and that’s how we were successfully able to locate the woman,” he said.
Sgt Hartfield said while it was only a small area burnt, it could have easily gotten out of hand.
“It definitely had the potential to get out of hand, luckily the weather at the time was manageable, a day later we had the horrendous wind conditions that resulted in several fires popping up around the region, so this could have been a lot worse,” he said.
“We were extremely lucky that it didn’t get out of hand and threaten nearby properties.”
The woman will appear in the Albany court July 19
