The Shire of Dundas is considering building four modular homes in Norseman at a cost of more than $1 million after identifying housing as a significant challenge in the region.
The Norseman housing development project — estimated to cost $1.07 million — would house key staff, workers, and members of the community.
The shire would take out a $760,000 loan and contribute about 28 per cent — nearly $300,000 — itself.
Councillors have not made a final decision on the matter, and members of the community are invited to write to the shire with their thoughts.
A statement from the shire said current borrowings were scheduled to be fully repaid by the end of this year.
“Upon completion of these repayments, the Shire of Dundas will have no outstanding loan liabilities,” it stated.
“Council is therefore considering the proposed borrowing as a strategic investment in housing infrastructure to address ongoing workforce accommodation shortages, support essential service delivery, attract and retain employees, and strengthen long-term community sustainability.”
The shire must receive written submissions from the community before 4pm on July 31.
