A week-long Busselton police road safety campaign was deemed a success, as officers reduced the number of distracted drivers on South West roads.

Officers issued 10 infringements to motorists using their mobile phones while driving and two infringements for motorists not wearing their seatbelt while driving between January 17 and 21.

According to Busselton Senior Sergeant James Bradley, the infringements were issued to a mix of local and visiting drivers.

Snr. Sgnt Bradley said the campaign was triggered by an increase in road incidents in the region where motorists were distracted by phones or injured by a lack of seatbelts.

“This is another reminder that the use of mobile phones and not wearing seatbelts is incredibly dangerous and a key contributor to road trauma in the region,” he said.
