Middleton Beach Bowling and Community Club names green after stalwarts Sue and Murray Milne

The Middleton Beach Bowling and Community Club has named one of its bowling greens after life members Sue and Murray Milne in honour of their contribution to the club. The Milnes have been playing bowls and contributing to the local club for more than a quarter of a century. Wet weather did not stop stop the couple from rolling the first bowl on the newly named green on Saturday afternoon. Club president Kevin Gleeson said the members of the club reached a joint decision to name to green after the couple. “We named one of the green after them because of all the work they’ve done and the contribution they’ve made both financially and physically over the past years,” he said. “They bring so much cohesion and they just make the club. “Murray and Sue are both life members. This is just one way that we can thank them for their ongoing support to the club.” Mrs Milne said they enjoyed giving back to the club because of the comradeship. “We’re here for the game and the sport but we also love the company,” she said. Mr Milne said the club had “made their retirement”. On Friday night, Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens paid a visit to the club to hand over a cheque of $13,034 towards furniture and equipment for the club rooms. The funding was used to buy new tables and stools and install disability hand railing throughout the club. “Middleton Beach Bowling and Community Club is a vibrant community,” Ms Stephens said. “The new furniture and disability railing will greatly enhance the club and the community.”
