
A large crowd held banners and waved flags down Hannan Street in celebration of the 50th national NAIDOC Week on Monday.
Organisations and the wider community came together for the 10.30am march from the Museum of the Goldfields to the Lord Forrest Precinct to launch the start of week-long celebrations in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
The 2026 NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly, celebrates five decades of NAIDOC Week and honours the elders, organisers, artists and communities who have shaped and sustained the movement.
After the march, celebrations continued in the precinct with food and information stalls, NAIDOC Award presentations, live music and a karaoke competition.
On Tuesday, a NAIDOC elders luncheon will take place at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club and Anglicare WA will host a community celebration at Evolution Mining Stadium with entertainment, activities, stalls, bingo, basketball and a baby competition.
The Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre will host a First Nations Languages of the Goldfields Region presentation at the Museum of the Goldfields on Wednesday, with a men’s bush trip also planned for the same day leaving from Hope Community Services.
On Thursday, Bega Garnbirringu will host an open day, and a “bush secrets: exploring bush food and medicine” activity will take place at the museum.
The annual NAIDOC youth ball at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club will take place on Friday, followed by a NAIDOC disco at Kalgoorlie PCYC and NAIDOC gospel night at the Salvation Army, both on Saturday.
The Gold Fields St Ives NINTILA: Kalgoorlie Aboriginal Film Festival will bring various films showcasing First Nations culture, language and story to Orana Cinema until July 10.
This year’s program of events was co-ordinated by the Goldfields NAIDOC Week committee.
