Hardware giant Bunnings will double the size of its Albany hardware store as part of a major expansion.

The Albany Highway store, which opened 18 years ago, will expand by 6000sqm into three lots facing Chester Pass Road.

The hardware chain revealed its multimillion-dollar plans to the Advertiser.

It is the first major expansion of the store since it opened its doors in 1999.

Bunnings general property manager Andrew Marks said it was an exciting project. “Bunnings has been part of the Albany community for more than 17 years and is pleased to have received an amended development approval for a major expansion of our Albany store,” he said.

Mr Marks said Bunnings was finalising its development program, which would include 6000sqm more retail space, but could not yet confirm a timeframe.

“We will keep the community updated as things progress,” he said.

“The DA will allow for over 6000sqm of new retail space and we are currently working on a proposed development program to make the most of this additional space.”

Bunnings announced a 2.6 per cent annual profit growth in August, with its parent company Wesfarmers increasing its annual profit by 22.1 per cent to $2.87 billion.
