Festivals, sports & arts among causes supported by Horizon Power’s community grants, applications now open

Festivals, sports and arts are all among the community causes supported by WA’s regional energy provider, with applications now open for the next round of grants. Horizon Power’s Community Partnerships Program awards $1.1 million each financial year to community initiatives and events in regional communities. The Goldfields-Esperance region received a share of $50,000 in the latest grants round, supporting eight initiatives across the area. Recipients included Laverton Local Drug Action Group, which received $7000 for a Blazers Basketball initiative, and Esperance Community Arts, which was handed $5000 for a summer school program. Grants also went to the Rotary Club of Esperance’s New Year’s festival, the Edge of the Bay festival in Esperance, a Ravensthorpe Regional Arts Council initiative, and Esperance Hockey Association equipment. Horizon Power chief executive Stephanie Unwin said the program was focused on supporting initiatives with a strong impact. “Our Community Partnerships Program reflects our commitment to supporting the unique needs of regional and remote WA, ensuring that every initiative we partner with has a meaningful impact on the communities we serve,” she said. “Our evaluation criteria ensure funds go towards programs and events across our footprint that are accessible to many and contribute to the overall wellbeing of the community.” Grants of up to $10,000 are available for initiatives benefiting a single Horizon Power region, while up to $50,000 is offered for projects that positively impact multiple regional communities. “We are proud of the strong relationships we have built with community partners in the regions and the opportunity to support so many unique organisations and initiatives which are enriching the lives of our customers who live in remote and regional areas,” Ms Unwin said. “We believe that by investing in local partnerships, we empower communities to lead projects that bring social, environmental and economic benefits, fostering resilience and innovation in the regions.” Applications for the latest round of partnerships close on February 28, with successful partnership recipients announced in April.
