Elleker rings in phone cover changes

Mobile phone users in Elleker and 13 other sites in the Great Southern should get better coverage thanks to improvements to Telstra’s network.

The sites, including Badgebup, Armstrong Road-Boscabel, Sturry Road-Cranbrook, Windy Harbour, Jacup, Noobijup, West River, Scadden West, Tenterden, Woogenellup, Ravensthorpe West and Beaumont, were targeted under the Mobile Black Spot Program.

Telstra and representatives from the Federal, State and local governments visited Elleker on Friday to mark the upgrades.

Telstra Area General Manager Boyd Brown said this was a reflection of a significant achievement for residents and businesses.

“The growing use of mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets is changing the way we live and we’re acutely aware of the challenges facing communities living with limited access to a mobile network,” he said.

“Expanding coverage across this region ensures locals can keep in contact with family and friends and run their businesses more effectively, whether it’s chatting on the phone or using a range of online services over our fast mobile network.”

The sites are among 183 mobile phone coverage black spots across regional and rural WA that now have expanded 3G/4G coverage provided by Telstra through the Federal Government program.
