Calf keeps watch on the water
Spyhopping is an interesting behaviour observed in Bremer Bay orcas.
Marine biologist Kirsty Alexander took this shot of a calf off WA’s south coast recently as it raised its nose above the waterline to inspect or “spy” on its surroundings.
Ms Alexander said the juvenile had a large cut on its nose, possibly from a hunting accident.
