Albany Senior High School has fallen short for a win at country week, held in Perth last week.

ASHS was runner-up on Friday as Bunbury Senior High School won by 17 points after a thrilling week of competition between regional WA’s top sporting schools.

ASHS reached many grand finals and were victorious in the boys’ football and speech and debate.

The girls hockey team took out second place in division A.

The speech and debating division A team also finished as champions after a week of strong presentations.

Squad manager Andrew McWhirter said he couldn’t be more proud of the team.

“Everyone was proud coming in second again this year, we definitely gave it our best and that really showed,” he said.

“In terms of quality of performance the team that performed exceptionally well was the speech and debate, who placed first in monologue, speech and debating, so we are very proud of those students.”

Mr McWhirter said overall the school was thrilled with their efforts.

“I’ve been on both ends of country week, as a student at ASHS attending country week and as a teacher, and I thinks it’s one of the greatest learning experiences that students have,” he said.

“It’s great to be successful in our 100th year celebration of Albany Senior High school.”

North Albany Senior High School won the boys division A basketball, just beating Denmark Senior High School.

Great Southern Grammar took second place in the boys division A hockey, and division A soccer.

The Denmark Senior High School girls soccer team was victorious in division A.
