Sydney-bound Delta Air Lines flight hit by turbulence, three hospitalised

Three cabin crew have been hospitalised after a Sydney-bound flight was hit with violent turbulence.

Emergency crews were waiting on the tarmac as the Delta Air Lines flight with 245 passengers and 15 crew touched down at Sydney Airport shortly after 7am on Friday.

They were alerted to the injuries about 6.45am, just before the Airbus A350 which had departed from Los Angeles landed.

Five people, including the three cabin crew, required medical treatment.

It is understood that the turbulence was encountered on descent into Sydney, and suddenly sent the flight attendants and several passengers into the air.

The crew members were transported to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

None of the injuries are believed to be serious.

“Delta flight 41 from Los Angeles encountered brief turbulence upon descent into Sydney, and four flight attendants reported injuries,” a Delta Air Lines spokesperson said.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our people and our customers, and our priority is taking care of the impacted crew members.”
