NSW hits 60 per cent double dosed, days away from 70 per cent mark
Sixty per cent of eligible NSW residents have received two jabs of a Covid-19 vaccine as the state hurtles toward the mark that will trigger a significant relaxation of restrictions.
It means the state is just days away from hitting the 70 per cent double-dose figure which will bring an end to the state’s lockdown.
The 60 per cent milestone was reached on Sunday afternoon just hours after Premier Gladys Berejiklian revealed the rate was hovering just below that number.
More than 85 per cent of people aged 16 and over in NSW have received at least one dose after more than 9,600,000 jabs were administered since February.
It comes as data experts including the ABC’s Casey Briggs predict NSW will hit the 70 per cent mark within 10 days – on October 5 – based on the current trajectory.
Once that figure is reached NSW is set to come out of its long lockdown with a raft of freedoms returned for fully-vaccinated people.
Relaxation of public health measures would come the Monday after the state hits 70 per cent double vaxxed, which would be on October 11 if the pace is maintained.
Ms Berejiklian on Sunday the state was “galloping” toward that figure but urged New South Welshman not to become complacent.
“There is not long to go before NSW starts approaching that 70 per cent double-dose figure and I ask everybody to please hold the line,” she said.
The Premier also encouraged people to start planning holidays for November when more than 80 per cent of the population is expected to be fully vaccinated, trigger even more freedoms.
“There will only be two to three weeks between 70 and 80 per cent double dose,” she said.
On Sunday a whopping 219,000 jabs were put in arms across the country, with NSW leading the way with more than 85,000.
Victorians took up just under 60,000 doses while about 35,000 Queenslanders also came forward.
More than 14,370 jabs were taken up in Western Australia, there were 11,373 jabs in South Australia, just shy of 4600 in Tasmania and 902 in the Northern Territory 902 people were vaccinated.
