The Dolphins has snapped up a key player from their local rivals, signing pointscoring star Jamayne Isaako on a three-year deal from the Brisbane Broncos.

Isaako will link up with the NRL’s newest team for 2023 as Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett continues to build a competitive roster ahead of the team’s debut season.

Dolphins chief executive Terry Reader believes Isaako’s signing already solves a key part of the club’s jigsaw moving forward.

“Jamayne is fast, elusive and a pointscoring machine, so we welcome him into the first-ever Dolphins squad,” Reader said.

“We have signed a couple of quality forwards in Felise Kaufusi and Ray Stone, so it is encouraging to get an international outside back onto our roster as well.

“Jamayne is a great pick-up for the Dolphins for our first year – it means we are pretty sure we already know who will be kicking goals for us in 2023.”

Isaako made his debut for the Broncos in 2017 before exploding onto the scene in 2018 in dramatic fashion.

In his first season, the 25-year-old scored 11 tries and kicked 97 goals on his way to the Dally M Rookie of the Year award.

Isaako also made his debut for New Zealand in April 2018 against England and has gone on to make four more appearances for his nation.

However, his sophomore season in 2019 didn’t bring as much joy, crossing the try line just four times and nailing 52 goals.

The move to the Dolphins reunites Isaako with Bennett, as the pair worked together at the Broncos in 2018, which was also Isaako’s breakout year.

It is the only year they have worked together as Bennett was unceremoniously sacked at the end of the season due to a dispute with Broncos officials.

Isaako will no doubt hope Bennett can help him recapture the form of his breakout season as he looks to continue his pointscoring spree.
