UGSFL 2023: Narrogin finish season on a high to celebrate Blair Forrest’s 250th game with a strong victory

Narrogin claimed their third win of the Upper Great Southern Football League season as they celebrated Hawks’ stalwart Blair Forrest’s 250th league game in style on Saturday. Boddington have already sealed a finals berth but the Hawks finished their home-and-away season in style in the round 17 clash, fighting back from a quarter time deficit to claim a 27-point win. It was a special day for Forrest, chaired from the ground after the win by teammates celebrating his 250th appearance for the club. Malachi Bolton kicked a season-high five goals while Tom Kilpatrick (three goals), Jordan Heil, Michael Bradford, Maximus Skerritt and Kacey Beard all shone in the 15.11 (101) to 10.14 (74) victory in Boddington. Brady Lee was the other multiple goal kicker with two. After getting out to an 11-point advantage, the Eagles were outscored for the remaining three quarters as the Hawks kicked five goals in a rampant finish to hand their opposition a seventh defeat of their campaign. Blake Reynolds, Jordan Hughes, Callum Giles-Morton, Zakery Pretty, Matthew Almenara and Lewis Gillespie stood out for the Eagles in a losing affair. Williams will take winning form into their finals campaign, easing past Kukerin-Dumbleyung with a 65-point victory on Sunday in Williams. Michael Cowcher snagged four goals in the win while Addison Dew and Gerard Medlen also finished with two majors. The Cougars trailed by four points at the first change but 12 goals to three in the remaining three quarters helped them cruise to a 13.19 (97) to 4.8 (32) triumph. The Cats were best served by Cameron Smith, Ryan Bellotti, Cowcher, Simon Panizza, Gerard Medlen (two) and Charlie Morfesse. Coen Marwick kicked two majors for the Cougars while Austin Shotter, Sam Howie, Byron Blevin, Stockton Cruz Shotter, Peter Joyce and Ryan Smith were among their best. In the final game of the round on Sunday in Wagin, Wickepin thumped Wagin by 184 points as Jethro Duffy booted nine goals in the rout. Ryan Melvin (four), Kynan Collard (three) and Flynn Spark (three) also kicked multiple majors in their 12th win of the season. The Warriors kicked 16 goals in the first half and kept the Bulldogs scoreless in the process. The home side found their first major in the third term through George Gibson but that would be their only success. Seven majors in the last quarter guided the Warriors to a crushing 29.24 (198) to 1.8 (14) win. Duffy, Melvin, Spark, Billy Clay, Sam Fortini and Cumoram Desmond were among the Warriors’ best. Liam Robinson, Tom Coleman, Cooper Young, Jack Manners, Hugh Telfer and Josh Kirk toiled hard for Bulldogs in a disappointing end to their season.
