Children in Narrogin should be able to return to their favourite playground as works to refurbish the Lions Park play area were due to be completed this week.

A new soft-fall rubberised surface was being installed this month to give kids a safe landing in case of spills or tumbles.

The removal of the existing surface came as part of the Shire of Narrogin’s ongoing maintenance program. The park had benefited from other rollouts including an accessibility swing two years ago and shade sails last year.

There was $50,000 allocated to the Lions Park project in the shire’s budget for 2026-27.

Shire president Leigh Ballard said the previous surface had been down for a long time and was showing signs of wear and tear.

“The old one was worn out and had probably been down for 10 years,” he said.

“Once it starts to fail it needs to be replaced sharpish and we try to get as much of our budgeted items done as quickly as we can.”

The Federal Street park is a popular spot for families, is fenced and has barbecue facilities.

It has been closed while the new surface was being installed this week.
