Motorists are being told to expect more delays around Williams over spring and into summer as Main Roads WA carries out major roadworks on Albany Highway.

The roadworks are scheduled to take place between September and April in a bid to improve road safety and freight efficiency.

There will be a range of lane closures and speed restrictions during harvest and holiday periods.

The works will include widening between Kojonup and Balgarup Road, and involve road construction, safety barrier installation and pavement sealing. That work is expected to be completed by early October. Road widening will also be happening on a 121km stretch of road between Williams and the Bedfordale Road Train Assembly Area, between September and December.

Audible edge lines will be installed to help warn road users when veering out of their lane.

Also from September to December, an additional 2.35km northbound overtaking lane will be added to the highway about 20km north of Williams.

Intersection improvements at Crossman Road and Crossman Dwarda Road are due to start in January 2021 and run through to April.
