Male driver injured, rescue helicopter sent after road train with blown tyre rolls on highway near Bannister

A truck driver has been airlifted to Perth after he was injured in a serious rollover Albany Highway, about 40km north of Williams, on Tuesday. Emergency services responded to the truck rollover that happened about 12.40pm, near Bannister-Marradong Road in the Shire of Bannister. The RAC Rescue helicopter was sent to the crash and landed about 1.30pm, with police and St John WA reporting that the male driver of the vehicle had minor injuries. A St John WA spokeswoman said the driver, a male in his 30s, was flown by the helicopter to Jandakot airport and from there he was taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital under normal road conditions with a range of minor injuries. Volunteer firefighters from Williams and State Emergency Service personnel from Boddington attended the crash to assist with the clean-up. It is understood the road train had a tyre blowout, forcing it off the road before rolling into nearby bushland. Fuel has leaked and debris left on the highway but both lanes remain open to traffic. Main Roads WA has urged drivers to exercise extreme caution when travelling past the crash.
