Harriet Page and Rebekah Stubbs claim women’s A-grade glory, Sam Graham and Kat Myburgh men’s A-grade winners

Talented female pairing Harriet Page and Rebekah Stubbs and men’s duo Sam Graham and Kat Myburgh claimed the two major A-grade titles at the Albany Open at Emu Point Tennis Club at the weekend. Page and Stubbs were in terrific form as they won the women’s A-grade doubles. The dynamic combination of Graham and Myburgh also proved too much for their opposition as they emerged victorious in the men’s A-grade decider on Saturday. Alex Riggall and Geoff Stade took out the title in the mixed A-grade doubles in the final on Sunday. There was a strong showing at the 33rd Albany Open, with about 130 players taking part on the newly refurbished synthetic grass courts. Players from Albany, Denmark, Hyden, Merredin, Tenterden, Kendenup and Manypeaks made the trip to compete across the three-day event. Page and Stubbs put together an outstanding display in their final, winning six-games-to-one against Shannon Slade and Audrey Notter. Myburgh and Graham were also dominant in their decider, with a six-game-to-one victory over Brad Rundle and Justin Taylor. Tenterden’s Riggall and Geoff Stade were comfortable winners in the mixed doubles A-grade final on Sunday, defeating the husband-and-wife combination of Harriet and Chris Page, 6-1. In the women’s B-grade doubles, Robyn Groenewold and Michelle Van Der Brugge outlasted the persistent pairing of Sue White and Jess McPartin, 6-4. The men’s B-grade crown went to Jens Barslund and Barry Atkinson, who got on top over Darren Sadler and Eric White, 6-2. In the mixed doubles B-grade decider, Jackie Brennan and Paul Lewis secured a superb victory over Louis Nolan and Greg Cook, 6-3. This year’s tournament also featured the introduction of a junior competition, with the talented duo of Denby Sharpe and Bryce Galos pushing past Archie Gethin and Matthew Ashworth 6-1 in the under-14 division final on Friday. Tea Zizek and Adalyn Sharpe prevailed 6-2 over Olivia Riggall and Eva Kowald in the under-14 girls’ category, while Paige Michael and Poppy Ford were 6-3 winners over Greta Gethin and Emma Shackley in the under-12 girls’ division. Dylan Stone and Fernando Gatti won a tight contest in the under-12 boys’ category over Austin Slade and George Riggall, with a tiebreak needed. The talented pairing won the tiebreak 7-5 to claim their title. There was no final in the under-8 division, with Jack Riggall and Teddy King crowned the champions and Myla Schlueter and Lillian O’Meehan runners-up.
