Bigger and better than ever: Christmas in Narrogin set to deliver community cheer in December

The annual Christmas in Narrogin late-night shopping street party is set to be big this year with more events and fun promised than ever before.

Free face painting, carnival rides, food vans and live music will transform the CBD as businesses keep their doors open late to give people a chance to get their Christmas gifts and soak up some cheer.

A cultural parade, organised by Christmas in Narrogin Committee member Poppy Wright, will take place for the first time this year, which the group hopes becomes tradition.

“We’re trying to showcase the cultural diversity that Narrogin has,” CNC member Danielle Van Rooyen said.

“We’re trying to include different cultures and aspects of Narrogin.

“It’s the first one so it’s going to be a bit smaller this year but it will hopefully be the first of many.”

Late-night trading is a longstanding Christmas tradition in many regional towns.

After a period of inactivity CNC member Loshni Mercuri decided to kick things back into gear and Christmas in Narrogin has grown significantly since 2016.

“It started off small, three shops opening late, then we started getting approval to close roads and it kept getting bigger,” she said.

“We have lots of kids entertainment because it’s all about the kids and I think the best part is that we will have Santa Claus here.

“He’s coming down from the North Pole, he’s taking some time off to come down to Narrogin — it’s been arranged.”

Christmas in Narrogin is made possible through the hard work of the committee, local business owners and community members.

“Every cent that makes this event happen is fundraised,” Ms Mercuri said.

“There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes and every year the stores are so giving, without the community and without the businesses it would not be able to go on.”

In the lead up to the event on December 8, local business promotions and further information on exact location and road closures will be released on the Christmas in Narrogin Facebook page.
