Lotterywest and Healthway have granted The Stephen Michael Foundation $821,000 over three years to support young people’s health and wellbeing in the Gascoyne and Murchison.

Health minister Roger Cook said it would deliver the “Strong and Active Communities” program to remote and isolated communities.

“The program will use sport, recreation, community and cultural activities to provide opportunities for children and young people to participate in healthy activities,” he said.

“Modified sporting activities will also be offered to provide opportunities for children and young people with a disability to participate.”

As part of this program, Youth minister Dave Kelly said Foodbank’s “Superhero Foods” healthy eating message would be integrated into culturally appropriate resources to promote good nutrition.
