Manjimup’s Dana East has been selected to represent Western Australia at the 2021 AFLW Under-19 National Championships.

East was selected for the under-18 State squad this year but the competition was cancelled due to COVID-19.

East said she’s looking forward to finally being able to pull on the black swan jumper.

“It’s exciting, got selected last year but we obviously couldn’t go away because of COVID,” she said.

“Big things ahead, it’s really exciting”.

East said she hopes the State squad selection will lead her to the AFLW draft next year and would be happy to be picked up by any team.

“It’s a big road ahead but that’s my main goal,” she said.

“Any side would be a dream.”

Although she is now heading to the national stage as a footballer, East got her start in basketball.

“I just started footy two years ago,” she said.

“My whole life’s been basketball and then I played a game of footy,” she said.

“I just got called up because they were short and I started loving it from there.”

The 2021 AFLW Under-19 National Championships will be played on the Gold Coast in April.
